Hoster Economics: How Much Can You Earn?​

Mycelium Hosts earn SPORE tokens by renting out slices of their nodes. Each node can be divided into multiple slices, with each slice priced within a Mycelium Host-defined range.

SPORE Payment Split (Per Slice Rental)​

When a user pays for a slice:

  • 80% → Mycelium Host (as SPORE tokens) — Your income
  • 10% → Burned — Removed from circulation
  • 10% → Protocol — Project Mycelium development

  • HW Cost/Month: What it costs you to operate the hardware (spread over 5 years)
  • Min SPORE/Month: Minimum earnings if slices are rented at minimum price
  • Max SPORE/Month: Maximum earnings if slices are rented at maximum price
  • Active Slices: Realistic number of slices in use (other slices may sit idle)

Example: Mini 1 Node

  • You buy a Mini 1 for USD 350
  • Amortized over 5 years: USD 6/month cost to you
  • If 7 slices are rented (out of max 25):
    • Min earnings: 1,092 SPORE/month = USD 10.92 USD (at USD 0.01/SPORE)
    • Max earnings: 12,600 SPORE/month = USD 126 USD (at USD 0.01/SPORE)
  • Your profit (min): USD 10.92 – USD 6 = USD 4.92/month
  • Your profit (max): USD 126 – USD 6 = USD 120/month

Slice Pricing: What to Charge​

Each slice can be priced within a minimum and maximum range. Mycelium Hosts can set any price in between.

Guaranteed Minimum Prices: Bid Tiers​

Mycelium sets minimum prices (called Bid Tiers) for standard slice types to guarantee Mycelium Hosts baseline revenue. If your slice matches a tier, you can always earn at least that amount.

What This Means:

  • Your node slice matches a tier (e.g., Mini 1 = "Std Compute Slice")
  • Mycelium guarantees a minimum price if your slice sits idle
  • You can charge MORE to individual customers and keep the difference
  • This is your safety net for revenue

Example:

  • Your Mini 1 slice matches "Std Compute Slice" tier
  • Minimum guaranteed price: USD 1.20/month
  • You earn 80% of USD 1.20 = 96 SPORE/month minimum
  • If you charge USD 12/month to a customer, you earn 80% of USD 12 = 960 SPORE/month

Pricing Strategy Tips​

  1. Set Competitive Prices: Check what other hosters charge for similar slices
  2. Offer Long-Term Discounts: Monthly rates are lower than hourly rates; encourage longer commitments
  3. Match Bid Tiers: Price your slices near bid tier minimums for steady income
  4. Premium Hardware: Nvidia and Tenstorrent slices command premium prices (USD 300–USD 3,000/month)
  5. Monitor Utilization: If slices sit idle, lower prices to attract renters
